You can create and send messages to people who have online IDs registered for use with PSN SM. You must be signed in to PSN SM to create and send messages. Select (Friends) > (Message Box). Select (Create Message).
How do you Check Messages on Ps3?
When you sign in to PlayStation®Network, the system will automatically check for any new messages you have received. You can view these messages under (Friends) > (Message Box) > (Received).
