MacDrive 101: Why do I Need MacDrive?

MacDrive is a file system driver that enables Windows to access HFS and HFS+ disks. With MacDrive, you can use any Mac disk just like its a normal PC disk. When youre done with the disk, eject it and use it on a Mac or another MacDriveready Windows PC.

How does Mac Drive Work?

Once you plug in your Mac disk , behind the scenes MacDrive works to seamlessly enable Windows understand HFS+ disks and allow you to read and write to the disk. There is nothing to launch or learn, MacDrive makes Mac disks look and act just like any other disk on your PC.

How do I Turn off Mac Drive?

Deactivating without uninstalling: In MacDrive, you can also deactivate without uninstalling by going to Start > All Programs > MacDrive > Deactivate MacDrive. This requires an Internet connection . MacDrive Quick Start also enables you to select Deactivate MacDrive.

How do I Access the Mac Drive?

MacDrive is available to all active employees of McMaster University. To get started, please go to https://macdrive.mcmaster.ca, and log in. Your user name is your MacID, and your password is your MacID password. Thats the same password that you use for Mosaic or for email.

How do I Open a Mac Drive in Windows?

Connect your Macformatted drive to your Windows system, open HFSExplorer, and click File > Load File System From Device. HFSExplorer can automatically locate any connected devices with HFS+ file systems and open them. You can then extract files from the HFSExplorer window to your Windows drive.
