The Studio: A Wisconsin Primer

Numerous colleges and schools including the University of Wisconsin, free music and free-flowing beer at the Terrace on warm summer nights, all the cultural opportunities of the big city in a place that feels like a small town—just some of the reasons that Human Head Studios calls Madison, Wisconsin its home.

4 hours from Minneapolis, 2 hours from Chicago, 90 minutes from Milwaukee, and less than an hour from Circus World Museum, Money Magazine called Madison “The Best Place to Live in the United States” in 1996. Why? Because it has something for everyone:

Wisconsin Art & Culture

Madison’s offerings include the Chazen Museum of Art, the annual Wisconsin Film Festival, the State Historical Museum, performances by local and national groups at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MmoCA), talks and speeches by faculty and visiting scholars at the University of Wisconsin and much more.

Maybe you just like to wander around with friends. State Street connects the University with the State Capitol, and is home to an incredible variety of shops, used bookstores, galleries, theaters, street performers, and much more.

n the summer, Saturday mornings find thousands of Madisonians on Capital Square for the Farmer’s Market, and many come back on Wednesday evenings for the annual Concerts on the Square series of free concerts.

Starting at State Street and spreading out throughout the city are hundreds of restaurants ranging from the mom-and-pop to the four star to brew pubs and ethnic restaurants of every variety.

There’s even more—Kites on Ice, Badger football and basketball games, Vilas Zoo, summer block parties—but we try to keep those quiet. Don’t want to be named “Best Place to Live”
twice and attract too many people, right?

Wisconsin's Great Outdoors

Madison has four lakes, more than two hundred parks, several major hiking and biking trails, championship golf courses, and groups into every activity from kayaking and biking to curling and kite flying.

For those willing to travel a bit further, Wisconsin offers everything from the Ice Age Trail—one of the longest backpacking trails in

the U.S.—to the beauty of Door County and the Chequemegon National Forest.
