Controller
Human Head is searching for a Controller to supervise high level business, financial and operational processes. The Controller is responsible for month-end financial processes and ongoing financial planning; annual and longer term HR processes; managing build-outs into expanding space; auditing and improving processes; and managing the overall corporate calendar.
This is a central position that will interface with all teams and all departments, so organizational and communication skills are important. You’ll work with each of our internal department heads to manage timelines, resource projections, and budgets for each project.

Qualifications
- At least 10 years experience as an Accounting Manager or Controller, including experience defining or redefining administration processes.
- At least 5 years experience in an Office Manager role in a small business (30-100 people).
- Experience in managing internal recruiting and working with external recruiters.
- Experience in administration in companies >50 headcount.
- Experience in managing architects and contractors in business space build-outs.
- Expertise with QuickBooks, Excel and Word required.
- Game or software industry experience preferred.

Level Designer
Human Head Studios, Inc., is seeking a Level Designer to work on our current AAA project at our Madison, Wisconsin video game development studio. This person will be responsible for the complete production of a set number of levels for the game. We are looking for someone with initiative and solid design sensibilities, experience in building levels for professional first- and/or third-person games, and an eye for all the components that combine to create effective and visually stunning levels.
Responsibilities
- Design interesting and exciting level flow and mission event planning in conjunction with the Lead Level Designer, and in support of the overall game design.
- Build the level architecture from early prototype blockout through to final polish, using Editor building and lighting tools, as well as assets provided by the art department.
- Work in tandem with Technical Level Designers (Scripters) to create all manner of gameplay execution and visual polish.
- Ensure technical efficiency of his/her levels.
Qualifications
- Strong communication skills (oral and written).
- Experience with an existing level editor (Radiant, Unreal, etc.)
- At least one shipped game with significant level design contribution to it (more shipped games is even better).
- Basic knowledge of at least one 3D modeling package (MAX, Maya, Lightwave, etc.).
- Ability to work well within a structured team
- Initiative and demonstrable creativity in layout and flow, scenario design, etc.

Level Scripter
The Level Design department at Human Head Studios, Inc., is seeking a Level Scripter to work on our current AAA project at our Madison, Wisconsin video game development studio.
This person will work in tandem with Level Designers in the complete production of a set of levels, from up-front design to bug-fixing the levels prior to shipping. Using the game engine’s editor and programming in the engine’s scripting language, he/she will design and implement the more complex level scenarios and gameplay systems that go beyond simple triggering and element placement.
We are looking for someone with initiative and solid design sensibilities and an eye for all the components that combine to create effective and visually stunning levels.
Responsibilities
- Designing engaging and exciting scenarios in partnership with the Level Designer that support and enhance the goals of the level.
- Scripting the scenarios from early prototype through to final polish, from prototype rooms to fully implemented and tested experiences.
- Ensuring technical efficiency of the levels, scenarios, and the script code itself.
- Working with the Level Designer to refine how the scenarios “fit” into game geometry and flow/progression.
- Integrating assets from other departments to develop and refine the scenarios.
Qualifications
- Proficient with modern programming practices.
- Good problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with an existing level editor and game scripting language.
- At least one shipped game or significant experience on a mod team.

Environmental Artist
Human Head is searching for a 3D Environment Artist proficient at creating models, texture maps and environmental FX for both architectural and natural environments. The ideal candidate has experience modeling and texturing assets for a diverse visual range of environments using the latest Hi-detail, multi-pass rendering methods. A solid understanding of form/proportion, color, and light for both 2D and 3D art is crucial.
Responsibilities
- Model, texture and polish interior and exterior architecture and world objects (organic and manmade) based on conceptual artwork and reference photography.
- Create high resolution/detail texture maps and texture sets for multi-pass rendering (normal/bump, diffuse, specular, etc.).
- Develop efficient collision models for static and dynamic environmental objects for use in physics system.
- Develop realistic and fantastical environmental FX to increase player immersion by utilizing particle/beam and multi-pass rendering systems.
- Develop target models for LOD system when relevant to game performance.
- Proactively problem solve asset and content pipeline issues when necessary, and collaborate with Art leads to improve efficiencies.
- Work together with lead artists and level designers to create amazing, game play focused environments.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years professional 3D and 2D artist experience.
- High degree of skill in creating efficient UV layouts for environmental assets.
- Professional level of game related 2D skills (texture painting, tiling textures, texture sets, and object/character skins).
- Experienced in creating textures for multi-pass rendering and understanding of how they work together to create a given look or effect.
- Professional level of expertise in subdivision “detail” modeling (hi-poly) and production of in game asset modeling (low-poly).
- Fluent knowledge of 3dsMax (preferred), Maya, Modo or equivalent 3d tools.
- Fluent knowledge of Photoshop, or equivalent 2d tools.
- Experience with Hi-detail modeling tools such as Z-Brush or Mudbox.
- Lighting skills a plus.
- Demonstrates understanding of content optimization.
